LOCATION MAP :: PENEDES (CATALONIA)

The region of the Penedès, formed by the Baix Penedès and the Alt Penedès, is to the East of Catalunya between the sea and the prelitoral mountain range. It is a region of soft relief and full of contrasts, with long beaches of thin sand and little depth, inland zones with landscapes of farmland where it predominates the vineyard, the olive tree and the almond-trees, and mountains of Mediterranean forest.

Located in a communications center, between Barcelona and Tarragona, and between the coast and the interior, the area has an ample and diversified communication network. All and each one of their towns has an own historical-cultural personality that is worth to know and that becomes obligatory to enjoy by means of a table characterized by a particular gastronomy, because the best of this region we can also found it in its foods and drinks.

The Penedès is an urban and rural region, and, it is at the same time agrarian and industrial, maintaining a balanced economic growth. The weight of the agriculture - vine, cereals, peach - and lifestock faming -  specially the poultry farming - it is led by the wine industry. It stands out the wine elaboration, bottled and protected by the Denomination of Penedès Origin. The vineyard is the base for the wine and cava elaboration, being the region the first producer of the State.

The Penedès offers to the visitor diverses activities of leisure and culture, thematic routes and itineraries articulated around the wine and cava cultures: walking thought the paths, going for walks between vineyards, tracks of the Modernism in agricultural buildings known as the Cathedrals of the wine, or the popular Wine and Cava routes.
